Acosta sponsoring free VIN etching event for residents

PHILADELPHIA, July 14 – State Rep. Leslie Acosta, D-Phila., is partnering with the Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority and the Philadelphia Police Department Major Crimes Auto Squad to host a free vehicle identification number etching event next week.

The Lock it! Hide it! Keep it! Vehicle Theft Prevention Event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21 in the Rite Aid parking lot, 4530 N. Fifth St.

“More than 13,000 vehicles were reported stolen in Pennsylvania in 2014,” Acosta said. “But there are many ways to help prevent auto theft, such as making sure that all windows are closed and doors are locked, hiding valuables, and etching the VIN on a vehicle, making it harder for a criminal to steal.”

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to have their VINs etched onto their vehicles for free, as well as learn about other auto theft prevention methods. Acosta and her staff also will be on hand to provide information about how the office can help constituents access state Transportation Department services.

Acosta also will present a citation related to her H.R. 953, designating July as National Auto Theft Prevention Month in Pennsylvania, to Capt. Michael Cram of the Philadelphia Police Department at 3:30 p.m.

For more information about the event, contact Acosta’s office at (215) 457-5281 or visit 511 W. Courtland St., Suite 197. More information about vehicle theft prevention measures can be found online at www.watchyourcar.org.
